Batten TechnologyBattens Online products are made using an automated pultrusion process, pulling resin impregnated carbon fibre rovings/tows in parallel through a heated die. The pultruded rod is cured instantly before post cure, to give the batten its ultimate toughness. The batten is then precision CNC ground to desired thickness and hand finished, ready to fit the sail. Pultrusion technology has considerable advantages over alternative manufacturing methods with extremely accurate control of resin and fibre content ensuring that every batten is consistently of the highest quality with virtually no variation between products. CST “Batmes”: CST Batten Manufacturing Execution System (or Batmes) is internally developed software that enables us to predict the required batten characteristics prior to grinding. This procedure involves analysing an FEA (finite element analysis) model through an 8 step iteration process. By programming in desired length, weight and camber point we are able to predict and grind battens to your exact specifications. Reading Our Labels: Every Battens Online batten is labeled, identifying its pultrusion batch, length, buckling load, camber point, lead-in length and job number to enable accurate product traceability. This coding system allows you to determine exactly what specification batten you have been using should you wish to order a replacement. Simply quote the job number and we can track your order. Quality Control: All CST battens are quality tested throughout the manufacturing process. This not only includes checks for correct length, weight and camber but also straightness and visible defects. Data is recorded on our CST developed manufacturing execution system for future reference. |
